On Monday June 18th at City Hall in downtown Durham, Mayor Bill Bell recognized eMerging Entrepreneurs’ Chairman T.J. Breeden for his recent White House “Champions of Change” acknowledgement. The DC honor is aligned with President Obama’s “winning the future” initiative in response to T.J.’s effort in support of veterans’ economic advancement and entrepreneurialism. eMerging Entrepreneurs, Inc. will be co-hosting “Momentum 2012,” the state’s first veterans-focused Small Business Symposium, Hiring Fair, and College Recruitment Assembly at Fort Bragg on June 27th. The event is free to all in the military community.
“At a press conference held at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in uptown Charlotte on Tuesday May 22nd, the city’s 2012 Convention Host Committee announced the 13 event planning companies selected to manage welcome events for the 2012 Democratic National Convention Delegates…” One such firm recognized was Durham’s very own April Ellerbe of New Century Planning, whose emerging event management firm was selected to host delegates from Nevada, New Mexico, Guam, American Samoa, Wyoming, and Utah at the Historic Duke Mansion of Charlotte.

Because of the efforts that T.J. Breeden has made in his leadership role as Chairman of eMerging Entrepreneurs, Inc.; both in support of the 2012 Momentum Expo and his organization’s veterans advancement program, T.J. has been selected by the White House’s Office of Public Engagement to be recognized as a 2012 “Champion of Change,” as part of President Obama’s “Winning the Future” initiative. This is a tremendous honor, as the award extends him the privilege of taking a private tour of the White House, meeting with members of the White House Executive Leadership and leading members of Congress, in addition to participating in a panel discussion in the Eisenhower Suite, through which he will be given the opportunity to share his organization’s mission for this summer’s veteran’s career expo with high-ranking members of the Obama Administration, members of Michelle Obama and Jill Biden’s “Joining Forces” initiative, the Department of Defense, Wounded Warrior Project, among others. Additionally, the Champions of Change staff will also publish a photo, profile, and extended write-up on T.J. and his organization for the White House website, as well as stream the panel discussion LIVE on the White House website . “It is a tremendous commendation to have simply been nominated, let alone to be awarded the distinction of being recognized alongside so many worthy individuals who have committed themselves to being of service to the welfare of others. Even still, the contributions that our organization attempts to make in support of our veterans cannot bare comparison to the level of sacrifice that our service-members, reservists, and their families make every day on behalf of our freedom. Thus, I am humbled by this opportunity to share our work in an effort to galvanize support for our returning men and women in uniform, as they attempt to navigate through the difficult process of transitioning from active duty, to civilian life.”
