“At a press conference held at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in uptown Charlotte on Tuesday May 22nd, the city’s 2012 Convention Host Committee announced the 13 event planning companies selected to manage welcome events for the 2012 Democratic National Convention Delegates…” One such firm recognized was Durham’s very own April Ellerbe of New Century Planning, whose emerging event management firm was selected to host delegates from Nevada, New Mexico, Guam, American Samoa, Wyoming, and Utah at the Historic Duke Mansion of Charlotte.
“It is a tremendous commendation to have simply been nominated, let alone to be awarded the distinction of being recognized alongside so many worthy individuals who have committed themselves to being of service to the welfare of others. Even still, the contributions that our organization attempts to make in support of our veterans cannot bare comparison to the level of sacrifice that our service-members, reservists, and their families make every day on behalf of our freedom. Thus, I am humbled by this opportunity to share our work in an effort to galvanize support for our returning men and women in uniform, as they attempt to navigate through the difficult process of transitioning from active duty, to civilian life.”

On behalf of the entire eMerging Entrepreneurs team, I am proud to announce that our organization has been nominated for a CLASSY Award in the “Best New Charity” category. The CLASSY Awards is the largest philanthropic award ceremony in the country, recognizing the greatest philanthropic achievements by charities, socially conscious businesses and individuals nationwide.
The CLASSY Awards were started by in 2009 with a very simple goal - to put a public spotlight on amazing charitable efforts in the San Diego community. Now in its fourth year, the CLASSY Awards have become the largest philanthropic awards ceremony in the country, and a celebration of the changing face of philanthropy in our world. It recognizes nonprofits who are operating as efficiently as lean corporations, and for-profit enterprises who have built social responsibility into the essence of their mission and products. It celebrates creative applications of technology in a sector that has never been known for its technology adoption, and young progressive leaders who could become the next generation of wealthy CEOs, but instead have dedicated their lives to improving the lives of others.
