In November of this past year, President Obama signed “The Vow to Hire Heroes Act of 2011;” a law that combines select veterans’ tax credits and legislative provisions from the President’s “American Jobs Act,” Senator Patty Murray’s “Hiring Heroes Act,” and Senator Jeff Miller’s “Veterans’ Opportunity to Work Act.” The hope for this initiative is that it will not only combat against the suppressed economic condition that exists within the military community, but that it will also create an environment through which small businesses will be incentivized for hiring veterans; thus improving upon the national economy as a whole.
Additionally, the President’s Administration and Congress have rolled out a series of servicing platforms to accompany this piece of legislation, which include a Jobs Bank and National Resource Directory, transitional programs, employment programs provided by the Chamber of Commerce, Department of Defense and Department of Labor respectively, recruitment centers, and jobs boards that support the employment needs of military spouses (click here for more information on these programs).
